ANSWER:

It’s true that the media and other stockbroking/share advice companies have a fairly strong influence on a stock price when they mention a story (due to the number of subscribers), but the spike and subsequent dump (it does happen) is temporary so we don’t take much notice as we are more attune to the fundamentals of the story and it’s valuation.

If we hold a story for 3 years then the initial spike and then dump would look like a small blip if everything else plays out positively for the company over that time. There is no guarantee however that a share spike will eventuate and a dump follows (or the size of the spike and dump for that matter) so trying to trade on that possibility is very risky.
